The life of a mandarin was one of ease and culture. These elite officials allowed their nails to grow very long as a mark of their status – showing that they did no manual work. Elaborate nail guards like these protected the nails and encouraged them to grow long and straight.

This nail ring from Bijules NYC for $166 seams to be a modern day take on the fingernail guards. Either way I will be purchasing a nail ring of some sort for my right pointer finger.
